Alpine Travel Course

Not currently scheduled

This year's ATC is going to introduce YOU to mountain climbing! No experience necessary.

It consists of three field trips:

- Snowskills day

- A "training" hike of Mount Si or Mailbox Peak a week or two before your final climb, complete with heavy boots and packs

- A final climb of Mt. Adams (the second-highest peak in WA)

and three in-town days:

- A pre-course meeting, where we'll go over gear etc. and reassure your parents,

- An afternoon of team building activities and learning about gear, safety, navigation, LeaveNoTrace, and decision-making

-A quick planning and logistics meeting before the final weekend.

If people are interested, we're thinking of getting some people from the Mountaineers to teach crevasse rescue to whoever's interested over the summer, as a follow-up to ATC. With ATC and crevasse rescue skills, you'll be a capable rope team member for Mt. Rainier!!!

PREREQUISITES

-you should be in shape (we're not talking Ben Corwin-style "in shape" we're talking you work out a couple times a week in the months leading up to the final climb)

-Snow camping experience. If you've never been camping in the snow, Siberia is coming up soon, and I think Ben and Jonathan are still taking forms. If you haven't, and you're busy during Siberia, just say so-- we can work with you.

-you have to be a Post member, which costs $50/year.

-you have to be able to come to all the different parts of the course. Most of the parts are offered more than once in smaller groups so that the whole course can work with peoples' schedules.
