GHS Student Staff and the UW architecture department are brainstorming new designs for rebuilding the large wooden recreation and learning structure at Cleveland Memorial Forest in Issaquah. The structure, called the Lyceum, was used often by the students as their base of operations for their wilderness skills and ecology programs, but was burnt down by vandals in 1999.
Now, the Seattle Public Schools outdoor education programs are bigger and more vibrant than ever and this supporting infrastructure must be rebuilt.
The Post is looking for a parent or community volunteer to help the GHS students speak with Seattle area construction firms and contractors, as well as design groups like the UW students. Fundraising, blueprints, and school district contact resources are all available. The project just needs a chairperson to help channel communication and steer the project.
Please contact Post alumnus Michael Shope (cell 218 779 3136 mikeshope@gmail.com), if you would like to help this reconstruction project in any way.
Thanks!
