Thailand

June 27th, 2010 at 12:00am - July 22nd, 2010 at 12:00am

For the first time ever POST is running an international trip to Thailand to experience the incredible nature and culture that Thailand offers. This trip is designed to push your cultural boundaries while letting you learn about other cultures in an unusual environment and taking part in some amazing outdoor activities. We will be leaving Seattle on June 27, 2010 and returning on July 22. The cost will be roughly around $3000 including airfare and all trip costs.

For the first week we will be doing language and culture lessons in Chiang Mai. We will also be partaking in home stays with Thai families in Chiang Mai. We will then be heading into the hills of Northern Thailand to go trekking amongst the native hill tribes starting in Mae Hong Son and ending in Huay Thong Koh. From there we are heading to rural Chiang Mai to spend time at the Elephant Nature Park to work with rescued elephants (http://www.elephantnaturepark.org/).After that we will return to Chiang Mai for a three day Buddhist study and meditation retreat at the Doi Suthep Temple. Next we will head south to work on a volunteer project with tsunami orphans near the town of Satun on the border with Malaysia. Finally we’ll head to Bangkok to learn about economic and cultural development of Thailand as well as meetings with NGO’s regarding their work in Thailand. We will also have the opportunity visit some famous Bangkok temples and other cultural sites in the Bangkok area.

If you are interested in learning about how you can get involved with the Thailand trip please come to an informational meeting with our head chaperone, Marshall Balick, on Wednesday October 28 at 7:30 in the Garfield Commons. Marshall has spent the last two years living in Chiang Mai and is excited to take part in this trip and share his knowledge of Thai culture with us.
